Who can take it

Illinois requires driver's license applicants aged 18, 19 or 20 who have never been licensed or completed an approved driver education course to complete a six-hour Adult Driver Education Course.

The six-hour course is made up of classroom time or online computer time only and does not include behind-the-wheel training.

Deadline

Each student must complete the instruction within 30 days after starting.

Certificate

After the course, the Secretary of State emails the student a link to download the Certificate of Completion.

Who approves it

A course completed with a provider that is not on the Secretary of State's list will not be accepted.

Good to know

The course ends with a final examination of 20 questions drawn from a test bank of at least 40 questions.
