Illinois law requires auto liability insurance rates to include an appropriate reduction, as determined by the insurer, for an insured person over 55 who completes the National Safety Council's Defensive Driving Course or a motor vehicle crash prevention course, including an eLearning course.

When the provider reports a completion, the Secretary of State issues the driver a letter of completion to present to the insurer.
