An auto liability policy issued in Nevada to a person 55 or older must provide a premium reduction for 3-year periods if the insured meets the conditions in the law.

One condition is that the insured successfully completes, after turning 55 and every 3 years after that, a course of traffic safety approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Who can take it

If a judge orders the class as part of a legal agreement, the driver must complete it to satisfy the court.

A traffic safety course that the insured had to take because of moving violations cannot be used for the insurance premium reduction.

A student in a traffic safety course must receive classroom instruction, which includes instruction using communications technology, for a minimum number of hours.

How often

A person may attend a course only once in 12 months for the purpose of reducing demerit points.
